Getting the balance right – Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Symposia
Facilitated by Assoc Prof Tina Hinton on Tuesday 30 November 5:00pm – 5:45pm AEDT, and repeated on Thursday 2 December 11:30am – 12:15pm AEDT. Groups will be limited to 20 attendees.
In this session we will discuss some of the challenges and opportunities for equity, diversity and inclusion in our society meeting activities, particularly in symposia. Who are we giving opportunities to? Who are we overlooking? How might our unconscious biases be influencing choice of invited speakers? From this discussion we aim to curate some helpful considerations around equity, diversity and inclusion in symposium proposals for future meetings. We encourage the diversity of ASCEPT ASM registrants and members to join this conversation, including Student Members and Life Members, members living in regional, rural or remote areas, members from diverse faith, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Mãori or Pacific Island people, people with disability, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
